Floating in the Talkeetna River

Quick breakfast and onto bus for hour trip into town. Felt quite at home when we used the public loo and it was a long drop. Walked down street to rafting place where the 14 of us got dressed in our yellow bib n brace overalls, rain jackets and over boots. Lots of giggles and photos taken. Our float trip lasted about two hours and was very peaceful and inspiring. We saw lots of evidence of beavers chewing down trees, a beaver dam, a bald eagle nest with eagle at home and a big splash which was a beaver diving under water. In a quiet backwater we pulled into shore and were greeted by the local hermit who lives in the wild and he sang us two Alaskan folk songs while playing his banjo. Unbelievable!

Walked back into town in our gear and warmed up with hot chocolate and then had a lovely spinach bread from a food van. Looked through a few more tourist shops and then back to bus stop for drive back to lodge. On the way we saw a moose on the side of the road.

Light rain set in again so we sat in lodge and talked then had a hamburger in the grill. Looked at view to see Mt McKinley but as usual it was covered in cloud. Early to bed again as up with the birds again tomorrow.
