Back to the Seventies - Bacardi and coke

Up early yet again and off to the train. Same seats and crew as yesterday but today we were on late sitting for meals. So when other group went for breakfast we were given scone and tea to tide us over.  Travelled through some beautiful country again and the mountains got bigger and better as the day progressed.

Breakfast was lovely once again and then we went upstairs to where our train carriage was getting quite noisy. What else is there to do when you are on a train besides drink? Nothing much, so when they didn't have brandy I rediscovered Bacardi and coke. Frank got stuck into the twelve year old scotch. The train, once again got held up lots by freight trains and it became ever more evident that we were going to be very, very late. We had lunch starting at three and the train was stationary the whole time and for quite a bit longer.  Back upstairs and more looking for bears. We did eventually see two just at dusk.  The scenery was quite spectacular though as we entered the true Rockies.

About seven o'clock they announced that we were going to be rather late so the poor chef had to concoct another meal for over 200 people. This time it was not fine dining, just chicken curry and rice in our seats. Thank goodness for free grog.

We finally arrived in the train at Jasper at 11.30 pm and then had to detrain, get on bus and be taken to our accommodation. Everyone was over it by then. Got to bed about 12.30. Pity about not seeing the beautiful setting of Jasper!!!
