Ice, snow and Glaciers

Had lovely breakfast in beautiful Jasper Fairmont and then had a quick look at the lake. Pity we had only 9 hours here including sleep. Back onto bus and Glenn gave us a quick tour of the small town and then we headed to Athabasca Falls where we saw amazing rocks carved out by the force of the water and a small waterfall. Lots of snow appearing on side of the roads. Next stop was at the Columbia Icefields where we were taken onto the glacier in a big caterpillar truck. Our guide was an Aussie. Very impressive high mountains, lots of snow and it even snowed a little bit but it wasn't very cold.

Had lunch at the Columbia Icefields and then headed off towards Lake Louise. Lots of people were snoozing on the bus. Arrived at Chateau Lake Louise and could not believe the size and opulence of the place. Went to our room and opened the curtains to the most amazing view - enormous snow covered mountains, snow and a frozen lake. Had a little walk to the edge of the lake and a bit onto the snow but not easy walking.

Dinner tonight in the main fine dining room. Three courses of very nice, gourmet food - thankfully included in the tour.

Very tired so back to room to look at the view and early to bed.
