Lake Louise to Banff

First thing after breakfast we had a talk from a ranger about the National parks and the animals and the history of Lake Louise and Banff. He was very enthusiastic and described how it was a group of Swiss Mountaineers who taught the local people about what could be done in mountaineering and how to attract tourists.

Then onto bus and short drive of 60 Kms to Banff. As there are so many tall mountains there was the obligatory gondola ride to the top of  one of the tall mountains where we had a hamburger  overlooking the spectacular scenery. After lunch we walked part way to top and took some stunning photos and thankfully the sky was pretty clear. Back onto bus and then a short stop to take a photo of the Banff Springs Hotel and then onto an area where we saw hoodoos down by the river with magnificent towering mountains behind them. Another photo opportunity at the waterfall very close to the hotel.

Arrived at hotel which is absolutely huge and imposing and was once the largest in the world. Bob the Mounty then spoke to us about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and lots of people had their photo taken with him. Finally given keys to room and went off to do some washing in out hand basin.

Dinner was with Lyn and Frank in the Waldhaus, a German themed restaurant. Lovely meal but the beef tenderloin I ordered was huge and I could not eat it all. Caught golf cab back to room and early night.
